SYNOPSIS

In a technology soaked future dystopian Australia, Lyll, nature's hardman, leads a group of misfits in a radical attempt to disrupt the domestic enclosures of three individuals and reconnect them with nature.

Hadley Perkins is a writer, artist and director investigating the unfolding mystery of the nature of things.

Hadley intends to uncover the new story that the world is starving for, one in which ignites our natural spiritual being, gives understanding to our human animal and questions our fluctuating enclosure of society.

His films are deep, raw and hilarious whilst contrasting with the dark underbelly of our humanity.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT

A ‘Strange Attractor’ is an agent of the future.

They exist amongst us all but are mostly seen as fools, weirdos, outsiders...

To illustrate, take a pixelated gradient from green (the present) to purple (the future), a ‘Strange Attractor’ is the isolated purple pixel in a sea of green.

It is unusual, out of place but a signal as to what is to come.

‘Strange Attractor’ is a relevant fresh narrative addressing the incoming impacts of tech driven monopolies on our human nature and the natural environment. More and more we live within a synthetic story created by a matrix of ideas contained within urban environments and fed to us directly via our personal devices. We can easily be living within a world view totally estranged from our intrinsic nature and the environment itself. As this technological monopoly grows it will be more and more important to step outside into the natural environment beyond the gates of society to hear our own whispering voice and tune into the greater nervous system.

Australia has the opportunity to be the lighting rod of this new movement with our untouched natural environments and an indigenous population that is still in touch with the stories echoing from the outback. We all have this ability to tune into the new and ancient story the land patiently and persistently whispers to us.

Having grown up in the bush on an organic Angus cattle property with a Dad that works closely with indigenous mobs throughout Australia I have seen the impact the land has in empowering our own inherent nature. My stories curiously examine the impact of convenient technologies, how we use them to domesticate animals and “cultivate” the land but also how the use of these technologies also domesticate us as a human population. Extracting our human multidimensionality and delivering them into externalised instruments; an example is ‘our sense of direction’ versus ‘google maps’.
Although the themes are dense and bordering upon the spiritual my films are hilarious and engaging, utilising the subtle dark humour of the Australian culture living upon a wild and volatile land with a mysterious and generous indigenous population. Lots of mystery and magic to be found through experiencing the land of the outback.
