SYNOPSIS

Tallaganda features the conservation issues of the endangered greater glider, the academics who work to understand them and the activists seeking to protect their habitat in Tallaganda, Badja and Glenbog State Forests which are still under threat from industrial scale logging. The logging of Australia's south east forests is one of the largest and longest national environmental conflicts.

DIRECTOR BIO

David's previous films include Understorey (2016), a key documentary on the campaigns last century for the south east forests, The Ambassador (2020), an award winning short starring the late Wynn Roberts and Koru Lian Timor (2024), a film about a Timorese choir touring Australia.

David’s wildlife photography has also been part of the global Wildlife Photographer of the Year and the Nature Photographer of the Year exhibitions. His work is widely used by conservation organisations to raise awareness of environmental issues.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT

For forest researchers, the greater glider used to be one of the most widely seen species in the south east forests of Australia. Due to industrial scale logging, land clearing, mega fires and climate change, greater glider numbers have crashed and it is now listed as endangered. Yet the wasteful, degrading, loss making logging operations continue in the key greater glider habitats despite public pressure and the numerous fines incurred by the loggers.
