SYNOPSIS

Living with an invisible disability, Jack struggles to embrace his own identity, especially in the workplace. After multiple rejections from potential employers, Jack feels like he has hit a wall, until a trusted friend helps him put the important things into perspective.

Prefer Not to Say is a film about friendship, identity, and learning to embrace one’s individuality.

DIRECTOR BIO ~ Shaun Foley, Wollongong, NSW

An Australian screen, stage and voice actor of 20 years, Shaun has worked on many productions including: NCIS: Sydney, Shang-Chi: and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Remnant, Wyrmwood: Chronicles of the Dead, Devil’s Dust, and Deadly Women, among others. Prefer Not to Say marks his directorial debut.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT

I’d like to give a special mention to our wonderful lead actor and my co-producer, Brandon Fairley, without whom this film would not exist. ‘Prefer Not to Say’ began as his story, and I had the privilege of incorporating my own vision and personal experiences into that story, alongside a truly incredible and passionate cast and crew.
When I was eight years old, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. As a creative, it’s something I’ve learned to embrace. That said, throughout my childhood education and early adult working life, it was a word that carried a certain stigma. I experienced firsthand how the label of disability in school and the workplace is often misunderstood as inability.
My experience is far from isolated. Many people with invisible disabilities face similar challenges and barriers every day.
This film was made to bring more awareness to invisible disabilities, to invite discussion about challenging barriers and looking beyond labels, and to encourage people who live with an invisible disability to embrace their individuality.
Our casting is fully authentic. Our lead actor, co-writer, and co-producer, Brandon Fairley, genuinely lives with an invisible disability, and has lived experience with the film’s themes.

Prefer Not to Say is a film about identity, understanding, and finding the courage to embrace who we truly are.
